
After opening play at the South Warren Lumberjack Classic with a loss on Friday, the Todd County Central baseball team routed Barren County in its first game on Saturday before falling to Owensboro later in the day.
The Rebels took advantage of 17 walks in a 17-2 victory over Barren County. A seven-run 3rd inning put Todd Central in control, including RBI singles by Grady Reding and Jase Hampton.
Leading 11-2, the Rebels continued to pour it on in the 5th, with Will Kearns and Nate Reding both doubling in runs for a 17-2 score.
Hampton earned the win on the mound, working 2.1 innings and allowing a single run on four hits with a walk and four strikeouts.
Kearns drove in three runs, and Hampton, Preston Rager, and Grady Reding each had two RBI.
Hayes Atkinson took the loss for Barren County, surrendering seven earned runs on three hits with six walks and three strikeouts.
In the second game, the Rebels took an early lead on Tanner Farmer’s RBI single in the top of the 1st, but Owensboro posted four runs in the bottom of the frame and led the rest of the way in a 7-5 victory.
Jacob Brandon tripled to bring in a run and eventually came home on Hampton’s ground out to cut the margin to a run in the top of the 3rd.
Cayden Ray singled to drive in a run in the 5th and followed with a two-run home run in the 6th to put Owensboro on top 7-3. Farmer capped his three-RBI game with a two-run double in the top of the 7th, but Kearns grounded out with a runner on to end the game.
Zack Robinson took the loss for Todd Central, allowing two earned runs on three hits in an inning of work.
Farmer finished with three hits, and Brandon and Nate Reding each had two.
Connor Hallmark pitched Owensboro to the victory, going six innings and yielding three runs on six hits with a walk and eight strikeouts.
Elijah Hampton was 4/4 at the plate, and Will Hume had three hits and three RBI.
The Rebels now stand at 17-7 with crucial district matchups with Logan County coming up on Tuesday and Wednesday. Todd Central is 3-0 in district play while the Cougars are 1-2.
