Hunter Shelton and Jordan Hampton finished in 10th place Saturday at the Region I Bass Fishing Tournament. Their boat captain is Gary Houha.

For the second straight year, Trigg County High School will send two teams to the KHSAA State Bass Fishing Tournament.

The team of Hunter Shelton and Jordan Hampton placed 10th Saturday at the Region I Tournament on Lake Barkley. They caught the five-fish limit with a total weight of 12-pounds, 10-ounces.  Their big bass weighed in at 3-pounds, 9-ounces.

For Hampton, it’s his second trip to the state tourney that will be held May 13-14 on Kentucky Lake. He teamed with Emily Huntsman to finish 22nd in 2019.  Shelton will be making his first trip to the state tourney.

While Hampton and Shelton were safely within the top-23 qualifying teams, Aidan Moore and Avery Ethridge had to play the waiting game and see if they would qualify.  They caught three fish weighing 9-pounds, 14-ounces.  In the end, it was good for 22nd place and a qualifying spot.

It will be the first trip to state for both anglers. Avery’s brother Anthony made two appearances at the state tourney, finishing 8th in 2018 and 50th last year.

McCracken County’s Harley Valerius and Blake Jeffery won the region title with five fish weighing 15 pounds. Whitesville Trinity’s Carson Fitzgerald and Blake McBrayer had the tournament’s big bass at 4-pounds, 3-ounces.

Dallas Ahart and Brayden Jones caught one fish weighing 2-pounds, 13-ounces to finish in 54th place.

Braxton Hargrove and Kyler Goodwin finished in 73rd place with one fish weighing 2-pounds, 2-ounces.

Dominick Sabatino and Thomas Hawkins finished in 78th place with a fish weighing 1-pound, 15-ounces.

103 boats left Kuttawa Harbor to fish with 78 teams bringing fish to the scales. While the temperature was higher than in previous events held in the spring, anglers had to deal with windy conditions that made for choppy water.
