The Christian County Lady Colonels provided the fireworks to start their game against Marshall County Monday night while Mother Nature provided the fireworks to end it. Christian County scored five times in the first inning and rolled to a 9-2 win over the Lady Marshals in a game that was shortened to five innings due to lightning and a thunderstorm that rolled across the area.
It was an odd night for the Lady Colonels, odd in that it was in the odd innings in which they pushed runs across the plate. Christian County scored five in the first, one in the third, and then three more in the bottom of the 5th.
The big shot in the first inning came off the bat of Karlee Crick, who mashed a two-run shot over the centerfield fence.
Allie Houchens drove in a run in the bottom of the third with an RBI single to extend the lead to 6-0.
Marshall County had a mini-rally in the top of the 5th when Trinlee Anderson and Charley Pursley came up with RBI singles.
The Lady Colonels then put the game away, just before the weather sent everybody heading for the parking lot. The Lady Colonels got the two runs back and one more for good measure, to take a 9-2 lead. Gracie Harned got the inning started with a home run. Pickle Winkler would add an RBI double.
The game was then called with one out in the top of the 6th inning, meaning the five-inning score was the official final result.
Gracie Harned had a big evening, going 3-3 with a home run, an RBI, and three runs scored. Karlee Crick was 2-3 with a home run, two RBIs, and a run scored. Allie Houchens ended up 2-3 with two RBIs. Pickle Winkler was 2-4 with a double, a triple, an RBI, and a run scored.
In the circle, Riley Hancock pitched all five innings, giving up two runs, on three hits, striking out five, while walking only one.
Christian County moves to 20-7 on the year. They are set to host Caldwell County Tuesday evening.
