Trigg County put a Ferris Bueller up on the scoreboard in the first inning Monday – scoring nine times – on its way to a 16-0 shutout of Kenwood at the Trigg Recreation Complex.
The Lady Wildcats sent 12 batters to the plate in the opening inning with three doubles doing most of the damage. Brynlee Smock ripped a double down the third-base line that plated three runs.
Three batters later, Avery Wade added a two-run double to put Trigg ahead 6-0. After a Lillie Cortner steal of home, Madilynn Smith doubled and later scored on a bases-loaded walk.
Smock would triple with one out in the second inning but fail to cross the plate.
Her third hit of the game was a third-inning single that scored a run.
Kiley Slone ended the game in the bottom of the fourth inning with a two-run double.
Smock’s 3-for-3 day saw her total six bases and drive in four runs. Wade, Slone, and Rylee Hendricks each had one hit and two RBI for the Lady Wildcats, who outhit the Knights 9-1. Trigg also played errorless defense.
Wade faced seven batters and struck out four. Makenzie Yielding pitched to the final six batters and allowed just one hit.
It was Trigg’s second 16-0 win over Kenwood this season.
Trigg County (7-10) will try and ascend the district standings this week with a home game Tuesday with Lyon County, a home game Thursday with Livingston Central, and a road game at Crittenden County Friday.
