Nine “free passes” and six fielding miscues were a bit too much for the Fort Campbell Lady Falcons to overcome Tuesday evening. The Hopkins Central Lady Storm scored at least three runs in five of their at-bats as they cruised to a 21-9 win on post.
An error, two walks, and a double off the bat of Keira Bryan gave the Lady Storm a 3-0 lead before fans had a chance to unwrap their game time hot dogs. The top of the first would end with Central up 4-0.
A hit batter, a walk, and two dropped third strikes helped the Lady Storm add three runs in the top of the second to extend the lead to 7-0.
Fort Campbell got things going in the bottom of the inning, scoring five runs of their own, two of them coming off of two errors on the same play by the Lady Storm.
The Lady Falcons would get within a run at 7-6 in the bottom of the fourth when Katelyn Griffey drove in a run with a single to the left side.
A Fort Campbell fielding miscue opened the door for the Lady Storm to score three runs in the top of the fifth and push the lead out to 10-6. However, the Lady Falcons came right back to cut the lead to 10-9 on a three-run triple from Hailey Herron.
But that would be as close as they got. Hopkins Central scored five in the sixth and sixth in the seventh to close out the game and pick up the 12-run win.
Hailey Herron had a big night at the plate for Fort Campbell, going 3-4 with 4 RBIs. Hope Balzeski ended up 2-4 with an RBI and three runs scored. Anika Weisbrich would finish the evening at 3-4 with two runs scored.
