It appears there has been a change in leadership at the Fort Campbell High School football program. According to the KHSAA directory page, and confirmed to YSE by athletic department officials at Fort Campbell, Henry Mitchell has been tabbed to take over the program.
Mitchell takes over for Charles Poole, who was apparently not rehired for the position. Poole coached the Falcons for just one season after the 2020 season was lost to the pandemic due to DoDEA restrictions.
Fort Campbell finished the 2021 season at 1-9, but finished with some positive momentum. The Falcons beat Webster County in the finale, after losing close games to Caverna and Ballard Memorial the previous two weeks.
Mitchell had previously served as an assistant at Fort Campbell under head coach Josh McKillip.
He was an assistant coach at Rossview during the 2021 football season under coach Todd Hood.
Mitchell told YourSportsEdge.Com “Fort Campbell was once a program of prominence, the Administration and Coaching Staff will do everything we can to get the program back to that status. We understand that it is not going to be an overnight success, but we are going to make sure we are dedicated to put in all the hard work that it takes to head in that direction.”
Fort Campbell is set to open the 2022 season August 19, when they host Muhlenberg County.
