With postseason play just days away, the Lyon County baseball team will need to regroup ahead of Monday’s 5th-District tournament after a 13-2 loss to visiting Henderson County on Friday.
Lyon County saw a three-game winning run come to an end to finish the regular season at 24-6. The top-seeded Lyons will face Livingston Central at Trigg County on Monday.
Looking to avenge a 5-2 loss to the Lyons earlier this season, Henderson’s Trevor Kellen smacked a two-run home run to put the Colonels on top in the first inning, and they added two more runs in the 2nd.
Gunnar Bingham’s two-run shot with two outs in the 3rd was the only time the Lyons could dent Henderson starter, Garrett Allinder. The Colonels answered with a home run by Brennan Cates to jumpstart a six-run 4th inning. Dru Meadows tripled in a run, and Trevor Kellen followed with a run-scoring double for a 10-2 advantage.
After Kellen singled to bring in his fourth run of the game in the top of the 5th, Daniel Gardner provided the final fireworks of the night with a two-run bomb to center.
Allinder scattered five hits over five frames with three strikeouts to earn his second win of the season. Kellen finished 3/4 at the plate with four RBI for the Colonels. Meadows, Wes Goldsberry and Alec Satterfield had two hits each, and Gardner drove in two runs.
Peyton Williams took the loss for the Lyons, allowing seven earned runs on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts over three innings. Brady Belt worked the final two frames, giving up six runs, four earned, on five hits with a walk and four strikeouts.
Henderson County improves to 19-10 with a trip to Bowling Green on Saturday to wrap up the regular season.
