Boyle County annually has one of the state’s best high school football teams and it certainly has added another big-time weapon for the upcoming season.
Receiver Dakota Patterson, who has a Kentucky scholarship offer along with at least 10 others, had transferred from Corbin to Boyle County. Patterson announced his transfer to Boyle on social media Friday one day before Boyle defensive lineman Tommy Ziesmer verbally committed to Kentucky. Another Boyle lineman, Andrew Hardwick, is verbally committed to Army.
Patterson said Boyle is a “great school and closer to family” when I reached out to him after he announced his transfer.
Patterson, a four-star receiver, had 32 catches for 508 yards and three touchdowns last season despite not being fully healthy for part of the season.
Ziesmer said he first met Patterson when they were younger playing basketball and football against each other. They have also visited UK at the same time.
“It is just great to have him,” Ziesmer said. “He is bonding with all the players. He is that last piece to the puzzle for our offense and defense.”
Boyle coach Justin Haddix coached Patterson in 2019 before he took over at Boyle following the retirement of Chuck Smith.
“He is a 6-3 kid with long arms who is probably about 190 (pounds). He is just a long, lean athlete,” Haddix said. “I have not seen him run in person in two years. I had him as a freshman and I know how athletic he is.”
Wisconsin, Purdue, Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Memphis, Pittsburgh and Eastern Kentucky have also offered Patterson a scholarship.
Haddix anticipates Patterson will play both ways for the Rebels who have always used their best players on both offense and defense. Ziesmer started at tight end in Boyle’s 2021 state championship season and will again this year.
Now Ziesmer has one more plan for Patterson.
“I might as well try to get him to Kentucky now, too,” Ziesmer said. “I am going to be in his ear and try to get him to go to UK just like me.”

Yeah, load up with them Kentucky boys.
Rumor has it that Patterson transferred because Corbin got a receiver via transfer who measures 6’6", weighs 215, and ran a 40 in 4.58, and proceeded to bump Patterson from the prime receiver to the secondary receiver( from the X receiver to the Y receiver). Not taking anything away from Patterson, because he is an outstanding player, but it seems UK and others need to check out the new kid at Corbin.
Everyone knows who you are Brandon and your so full of it !!! Why don’t you stop trolling on Patterson if you would keep your nose out of everything your boys would be way better off !!!
Tell me more Honest Abe about who this new Corbin receiver is
