Hopkinsville High School had a pair of athletes win region titles Tuesday with one of them setting a new school record.
Senior Allison Wood won the 1600-meter run and became the first Hoptown athlete to break the 5:30 barrier. Her time of 5:25.03 broke her own school record of 5:30.75 set at last year’s region meet.
Wood also qualified for the state meet with a second-place finish in the 3200-meter run.
Senior Lori Moyd also qualified for the state meet with a first-place finish in the shot put. Her toss of 35-feet, 0.75 inches just missed her personal best and was the fifth-best in school history.
As a team, Hopkinsville finished in sixth place with 50 points, just two points behind fifth-place Apollo. Henderson County took the region title with 122 points.
