Hoptown Claims Two Wins, One School Record at Region Meet


Hopkinsville High School had a pair of athletes win region titles Tuesday with one of them setting a new school record.

Senior Allison Wood won the 1600-meter run and became the first Hoptown athlete to break the 5:30 barrier.  Her time of 5:25.03 broke her own school record of 5:30.75 set at last year’s region meet.

Wood also qualified for the state meet with a second-place finish in the 3200-meter run.

Senior Lori Moyd also qualified for the state meet with a first-place finish in the shot put. Her toss of 35-feet, 0.75 inches just missed her personal best and was the fifth-best in school history.

As a team, Hopkinsville finished in sixth place with 50 points, just two points behind fifth-place Apollo. Henderson County took the region title with 122 points.

A’Layahia White – 6th in the 100-meter hurdles (21.41)

Rebecca Wood – 7th in the 1600-meter run (6:11.73)

Alexandria Williams – 7th in the discus throw (86-07)

Arniya Brown – 8th in the 300-meter hurdles (1:00.91)

Lauren Mayes – 8th in the 3200-meter run (13:57.27)

Tynaihja Watson – 8th in the triple jump (27-09.75)

ShaKera Johnson – 9th in the shot put (27-10.75)

Amaya Burse – 11th in the 200-meter dash (30.32)

Antavia Shemwell – 11th in the long jump (13-0)

Janiyah Rhodes – 12th in the 200-meter dash (30.40)

Kaydon Coats – 13th in the 800-meter run (2:56.10)

Kalajsha Rowe – 14th in the 100-meter dash (14.47)

Evelyn Bangart – 15th in the 800-meter run (3:05.44)

The 400-meter relay team finished in fourth place in a time of 54.18 seconds.

The 1600-meter relay team came in fourth place with a time of 4:31.88.

The 3200-meter relay team finished in sixth place with a time of 11:42.54.

The 800-meter relay team came in 7th place in 2:00.
