Josh Young takes over the head coaching duties this season at Caldwell County.
A former Tiger baseball and football standout is the new head coach of the Caldwell County baseball program.
Caldwell County High School has announced that Josh Young has been hired to lead the Tiger baseball team.
Young served as an assistant this past season to Jimmy Dyer, who stepped down last month after a 16-9 showing this season. Dyer’s son, Gabe, was a senior on this year’s team.
Dyer went 29-22 over the last two seasons on the Caldwell bench. The Tigers won a 7th District championship this season and reached the 2nd Region semifinals before falling to eventual champion Christian County.
In two different stints as head coach at Caldwell, Dyer went 74-66.
Meanwhile, Young is a head coach for the first time. A 2016 Caldwell County High School grad, Young was a member of the Tigers’ 2nd Region championship team in 2016, seeing action on the infield, in the outfield and on the mound. The Tigers played in the state tournament in Lexington that season.
Young played high school baseball and football for four years. He was also a member of Caldwell’s Class 2A state runner-up football team as a freshman in 2012. Young is still second on the Tigers’ career receiving yardage list. He was an assistant coach for the Caldwell football team last fall.
Young played college baseball at the University of Pikeville before transferring to Murray State University and spending two years as a wide receiver on the Racer football team.
Young graduated from Murray State in 2020 with a Bachelor degree in Health and Physical Education.

Young takes over a Caldwell County baseball program with a history of success.
According to available records, the Tiger baseball team has an all-time record of 827-578-2 going back to the 1950s.
Caldwell owns 32 district championships over the past 65 years and has three regional championships to its credit — 1991, 2016 and 2017. Caldwell has been the region runner-up four times — 1964, 1997, 2012 and 2019.
