Freshman guard Cason Wallace readily admits it has been more than a “little big challenging” for him since he got to Kentucky.

However, Wallace knew what he was getting into and was prepared for what he’s already faced.

“I am stepping up to another level, so it is expected. You can’t come in with the same high school mindset,” Wallace said.

Say amen Kentucky fans. That’s the attitude you want from a top 10 player who needs to be the floor leader for this team as a freshman. I know Sahvir Wheeler is back at point guard but Wallace has elite skills and playmaking ability that Wheeler does not.

“I have to speed up, slow down constantly and know when to do it,” Wallace said about the adjustments he has to make to college basketball. “I am just trying to be more free and make it feel normal instead of forced.”

That’s why Kentucky’s exhibition trip to the Bahamas next month could be so beneficial for him. He’ll get four games against older international players to see what works or does not work for him at this level. He also gets extra practice and bonding time with his teammates on the trip.

“It’s big, really. Knowing where I’ll match up with other college players instead of playing against teammates and having fun with them,” Wallace said.

“So going against someone, I don’t know and they don’t know me, it’ll be a good way to see where I’m at.”
