Being from Kentucky, Jerod Smith admits he was not an Alabama football fan. Yet he knew what a great opportunity it was for his sons — twins Jacob and Jerod Smith — to get an invitation to go to Alabama for an unofficial visit.

The Smiths are both consensus top 200 players in the 2024 recruiting class. They played two years at Somerset High School before transferring to Loomis Chaffee School in Connecticut for the 2021 season where they reclassified to the 2024 class.

“A school like Alabama has athletes to dominate,” Jerod Smith said. “Coach (Nick) Saban had a program that I did not know he had. He’s pretty strict on education and mental health awareness. My wife and I both really like that.”

“You just kind of think he’s really going to hit the football aspect but he was about the overall program and talked about a lot of things other than just football.”

The Smith twins have Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky and Iowa as their top four schools currently among the 20-some scholarship offers they already have.

  1. Is he saying that Georgia, Kentucky, and Iowa don’t place an emphasis on the total program and education, or is he saying that the fact that he discovered that Saban seems to do so was surprising to him?

    1. That sounds like a sort of strange comment to me, completely lost on that one. On the other hand, it sort of sounds like these kids are going to Alabama if you read between the lines. Saban gets pretty much who he wants. That alone really helps his coaching resume, and the win-loss column. Education and mental health….Humm. UK is not interested in those things Mr. Smith? Your sons can get a pretty good education at UK, and play major college football closer to home in the process. That would delight the the BBN, and help the football program at UK, which is on the rise by the way. That has to count pretty high up in the consideration department, it would seem to me. Go Cats!!!!

  2. Nick Saban is a snake!! Do not believe a word he says.’
I live in Miami. I remember and I
    Know.

  3. Alabama has a very good program/system. Coach Saban is always on the lookout for intellectually gifted and athletically talented athletes. He has a tremendous need for 3-star and 4-star players who can emulate offensive/defensive schemes that his 5-star players will be playing against on Saturdays. Side benefit: get to eat at the same training table and get the same text books as those players who will be getting NIL money before they go to the League. Playing time? Meh, not so much.
