It was pretty typical early preseason for the Christian County Colonels on day one of the Best of the West 7-on-7 passing tournament Friday at the Stadium of Champions and Tie Breaker Park. There were some good moments for the Colonels and there were some things for new head coach Blake Ladson and his staff to continue working on with their team.

The Colonels began their day at the Stadium in a pool with Pearl Cohn, Macon County, and Hopkins County Central. In the opener, the Colonels struggled to find some offense against a very good Pearl Cohn team. The Firebirds rolled to a 39-2 win.

The second game of the morning session was one the Colonels would like to have back. In the waning moments, Christian County just needed to run out the clock and not give up the three points charged for an interception. But an interception it was, and Macon County stole a 17-16 win.

Christian County closed out the morning session by getting their offense on track and getting past Hopkins Central 36-16.

When the pools were redone, based on morning session record, for the afternoon session, the Colonels were placed in a pool with Owensboro Catholic, Madisonville-North Hopkins, and Bowling Green.

Owensboro Catholic got past the Colonels 28-18 in the opening game of the afternoon. Then things took a turn in the second game of the session. Madisonville-North Hopkins held a 21-12 lead over Christian County, inside of the final five minutes of the game, when a physical play resulted in both teams leaving the sideline and the game being stopped.

Christian County then elected not to play their final game of the day and took a forfeit loss to the Bowling Green Purples.

The Colonels return to action Saturday in bracket play. Christian County will take on Muhlenberg County at 9:00.
