Will Levis grew up in Connecticut where he says there are some “awesome” golf courses but he only hit golf balls when he went to the driving range.

Today the Kentucky quarterback is a lot more serious about golf but also uses it as a way to take his mind off football.

He’s friends with UK golfer Jacob Cook of Frankfort who grew up taking lessons from Frankfort Country Club pro Bruce Brown. Levis and Cook played a round at Frankfort Country Club and Brown watched him play.

“He was following us and making fun of my swing,” said Levis. “I figured it was time to take matters into my own hands and reach out to him (Brown) for help. I have taken one lesson from him and the second one was rained out.”

“I need to get back to Frankfort Country Club to get another one because he helped me a lot. I was struggling with my shots from like 100 to 50 yards. He worked on that and a swing I can have in mind for different yardages of that range that helped me.”

Levis said golf is a good way for him to get some sun, enjoy being with friends and get away from football and everything else.

“As long as you don’t get too mad at yourself, it can be a very calming and rewarding game,” the Kentucky quarterback said. “I am really competitive, so I feel like any time I go out there and make one good shot it just keeps bringing me back.”

But does he really stay calm and not get upset?

“That is my leisure time and time away from everything else. I feel like if I am just getting mad at myself, then it is just negatively affecting my day so I try to keep it as positive as possible,” he said.

He even worked a NIL deal with Boone’s Trace National Golf Club in Richmond through Athlete Advantage. He has his own golf league with 15 UK teammates.

“Originally it was a deal for myself. Just go and play at the course when I want and then I asked if it would be possible to include the other 15 people on my team to play golf, too,” Levis said.  “We turned it into a six-week league we do once a week. I appreciate everyone at Boone’s Trace for letting me and my teammates have this opportunity to just have some fun.”
