Harlee Davis’s goal just forty seconds into the second half turned out to be the difference for the Calloway County Lady Lakers Tuesday evening. Davis scored both of the Lady Lakers’ goals as they fought off the Lyon County Lady Lyons 2-1 in a tightly contested preseason scrimmage at Lee S. Jones Park.

While Calloway County controlled possession most of the match and won the shots-on-goal battle, the Lady Lyons got big-time play from their backline defense, especially senior goalie Maddie Russell, who finished with 18 saves.

Lyon County took an early 1-0 lead in the match when Alice Smith outraced the Lady Lakers down the field and scored at the 16:20 mark.

Harlee Davis evened things up when she scored the first of her two goals at 32:30.

In the opening minute of the second half, Davis knifed her way through the Lyon County defense and found the back of the net for the game-winner.

In addition to the play of Russell, the Lady Lyons also got some big minutes from Abbeni Jones, Mary Davis, Avery White, and Anna Crawford.

The Lady Lyons are set to open the 2022 season Monday night when they host Union County.
