Freshman Jordan Anthony has world-class speed and thinks he can surprise UK football fans this season.
Kentucky football freshman receiver Jordan Anthony has dazzling speed and qualified to compete in the World Under-20 Athletics Championships in Colombia this week by winning the Under-20 200-meter dash at the USA Championships in June.
Anthony was clocked in 20.34 seconds and said after the event it was “very big to represent the country as an individual” in Colombia.
Two other Kentucky track athletes — sophomores Brandon Miller (200) and Areti Filipidou (discus).
However, Anthony is not in Colombia. Instead, he decided to stay on campus where’s been most of the summer except for the USA meet. He’s been attending summer classes but also working with the football team and quarterback Will Levis to get ready for the 2022 season.
Anthony’s world-class speed could make the Mississippi receiver a big-play receiver and he told me after the USA meet he had no intentions of slacking on football because of his track success.
I reached out to him to ask if he was not going to the World Championships?
“I am not. I decided to stay in Lexington to play early and surprise the fans,” Anthony messaged me.
What made him decide to do that?
“I wanted to take on the challenge to come back next year and win the World Championships, not the under 20 championship,” he messaged.
I like not only his commitment to Kentucky football but also the confidence he has in his ability to win on an even bigger stage.
To me, Anthony’s attitude is a win-win for him and UK football.

Being fast is one thing. Can he run a route, catch the ball, and take a hit?
