Mother Nature had her fingerprints on soccer action all across the area Tuesday night. That was no different in Madisonville, where the Maroons were taking on University Heights Academy in the season opener for the Blazers.

The game made it to halftime before being called as an official contest with the Maroons taking a 4-1 win.

The start of the contest was delayed until about 6:45, and it did not take long for figurative lightning to strike for the Maroons. Eli Redpath found the net early in the opening half off an assist from J.J. Brown to give Madisonville a 1-0 lead.

The Blazers came back to tie things up at 1-1 when Preston Thomas scored off an assist from Ethan Hale.

Madisonville-North Hopkins would then score three unanswered goals before the end of the opening half. J.J. Brown scored off an assist from Ivan Juarez to give the Maroons the lead back at 2-1. It was Maverick Peyton scoring next, off a pass from Eli Redpath, to extend the lead to 3-1.

Madisonville wrapped up the scoring for the evening when Ivan Juarez found the back of the net on the penalty kick to make it a 4-1 lead.

That would be the score as the match reached halftime. With thunderstorms and plenty of lightning across the region, the match would be called at the half with the Maroons picking up the win.

The Blazers drop to 0-1 to open the season with the loss. They are back in action for their home opener Thursday when they host Fort Campbell in an 8th District matchup.

Madisonville improves to 2-0. The Maroons are off until Saturday when they are scheduled to travel to take on Bowling Green.
