The Todd County Central boys’ soccer team is 2-0 to start the season for the first time in nine years after a 3-0 victory at Muhlenberg County on Thursday.
That strong start in 2013 resulted in a district runner-up and a trip to the 4th-Region semifinals, although the Rebels may have their sights set even higher this season.
Todd Central jumped in front midway through the first half when Ric Garcia-Sears cleaned up a loose ball in the box, and the Rebels led 1-0 at the halftime break.
Early pressure in the second half yielded another goal when Cam Wheelock steered in a header at the near post off a corner kick from Chris Salazar.
With twenty minutes left to play, Salazar capped the scoring from 12 yards out after good work from Tanner Henderson and Chi Herrera down the right side. Goalkeeper Jonah Rager finished with six saves to earn the win, including a late 1v1 stop to preserve the shutout.
Todd Central will look to extend its perfect start on a trip to Owensboro Catholic on Saturday.
