Kentucky commits Reed Sheppard and Rob Dillingham will be part of an all-star group of players participating in the Midwest Charity Classic Aug. 27 at Frederick Douglass High School in Lexington to benefit the Kentucky Flood Relief Fund of the American Red Cross.
Sixteen players, including Lyon County junior Travis Perry who has a Kentucky offer, are currently scheduled to play in the game. Doors will open at 6:45 p.m. and the game will start at 8.
Tickets start at $25 and can be purchased by visiting www.MidwestCharityClassic.com. All ticketing will be done online.
“It all started with Reed getting a bunch of guys he has played with and against to help raise a good amount for flood relief,” said Alex Land, marketing director for G3 Marketing. “They are going to play a regulation game and also are hoping to do some sort of skills competition to kick off the event. We hope to raise money and awareness for flood relief.”
Land said Frederick Douglass seemed like the perfect venue for a game that will have so many top players. However, the stars will be Reed, the North Laurel star, and Dillingham, a five-star guard who plays in California. They could be the future backcourt at Kentucky.
“A lot of these guys play together and compete against each other a lot,” Land said. “We have a lot of very quality players participating that fans are really going to enjoy watching.”
