Hopkins County Central got a goal from Tim Clevenger off a deflection with seven minutes left to defeat Trigg County 2-1 Tuesday at Josh Nichols Field.

The goal decided the defensive-minded contest that saw each team score once in the first half.

Freshman Riley Dunlap got Hopkins County Central on the board in the 14th minute when he found the goal off a deflection.

Trigg County answered 10 minutes later when they were awarded a penalty kick off a foul in the box. Alex Hurt banged home the PK to knot the game at 1-1.

Both teams had good looks to break the tie late in the half. Trigg missed on an open look out in front.

Hopkins Central was awarded a penalty kick in the final seconds of the first half but Wildcat goalie Riley West batted away the shot to preserve the tie.  West had eight saves in the match with six coming in the second half.

Hopkins County Central (1-2) outshot Trigg 15-6 and held a 10-2 advantage in the second half.

The win was the Storm’s fourth straight over the Wildcats with three of those contests decided by one goal. Hopkins Central won last year’s matchup 7-0.

Trigg County (1-2) will host Ohio County Thursday.
