After dropping the opening set at Logan County on Tuesday, the Todd County Central volleyball team battled back to even it up in the second. However, the Lady Cougars were too strong over the final two sets in a 3-1 13th-District victory.
The Lady Rebels drop their opener and will have to wait until September 6 for another shot at the Lady Cougars. Logan County won by the same score when the teams met in last season’s district-title match.
The Lady Cougars took the first set 25-21, but the Lady Rebels jumped out to a 17-10 lead in the second. After three straight points to cut the lead to 23-14 and force a Todd Central timeout, Logan got as close as seven points before the Lady Rebels evened things up with a 25-16 victory.
It was Logan’s turn to jump out to a lead in the third, and the Lady Cougars led 13-4. Todd Central got within four at 13-9 but lost 25-15 to trail 2-1.
The final set was back and forth to start, and it was deadlocked 7-7 after a kill by Todd’s Lynnlee Jones. It was tied again at 10-10 before Logan County took the lead for good. A kill by Lucy Chester got the Lady Rebels within a point at 17-16, but the Lady Cougars pulled away to win 25-19.
Next for the Lady Rebels is a trip to Cumberland County on Saturday to face Russellville in the 4th Region All “A” Classic. Todd Central took both meetings with the Lady Panthers last season.
