The move to Class 3A has not been a good one for Trigg County since getting bumped up from 2A in 2011. The Wildcats have won just one playoff game (2014), missed the postseason twice (2015 and 2016), and have been mercy ruled in four losses.
Nine starters return from last year’s 4-7 team that averaged 31.3 points — 10th best in Wildcat history for first-year coach Chris Ezell.
However, Trigg gave up 35.5 points — sixth most in program history. It’s the defensive side of the football where Ezell is hopeful the biggest strides have been made.
Trigg County’s schedule has them playing its first four games at home and five of their last six on the road.
Because they play in a four-team district, the Wildcats are assured of a postseason berth. The KHSAA moved to return to the cross-district format meaning Trigg’s first-round opponent will be Glasgow (12-2), Taylor County (9-3), Hart County (6-5), Adair County (7-4), or Casey County (2-8). Trigg must finish second or better to avoid a long first-round game.
