Wildcats Open 2022 With Home Win Over Todd Central

Trigg County rolled up over 500 yards of offense and held off a second half Todd County Central run to post a 42-26 win Friday night at Perdue Field.

Jacob Wease threw four first half touchdowns including a 60-yard screen for a score on the game’s first play.

The senior quarterback finished 18-of-25 for 319 yards, becoming the fourth Trigg player to pass for 4,000 yards in a career.

Wease connected with Kelsey Parham on a screen that went for a score to open the game. He then followed with a 5-yard scoring pass to Dillon Skinner that put the Wildcats ahead 14-0 with 3:28 left in the quarter.

Todd County responded with a 57-yard scoring strike from Gavyn Nolan to Nate Reding five seconds before the end of the first quarter. The duo provided most of the aerial offense for the Rebels. Reding hauled in six passes for 168 yards while Nolan was 9-of-22 for 229 yards.

The Wildcats tacked on a pair of scores in the second quarter to take a 28-7 lead at halftime. Skinner made a twisting leap to bring in a 25-yard scoring strike with 10:16 left to push the Trigg lead to 21-7. Skinner finished with four catches for 61 yards.

Jhaden Vaughn capped the first half scoring with an 18-yard catch and run with 13 seconds left before intermission. Vaughn had five catches for 124 yards.

Todd County Central was able to chip into the deficit with its run game in the third quarter. Ricky Woodward capped a run-exclusive drive to start the second half with a 4-yard run to get the Rebels to within 28-14. Jamarion Smith had a long run to help set up the score. Smith finished with 92 yards on the ground for the game.

The Rebels got the ball back and got to within one score when Nolan found the end zone from five yards out. The extra point kick was blocked and Trigg held on to a 28-20 lead with 2:17 left.

Trigg was able to establish its own run game the rest of the way with Parham, who ran for 156 yards on 14 carries and caught three passes for 95 yards.

Parham scored from 19 yards out with 10:43 left to extend Trigg’s lead to 35-20 with 10:48 left.

Trigg’s final score came on a 5-yard run by Jerimyah Shearer with 3:37 left.  Olivia Noffsinger added the last of her six extra points becoming the first female to score for Trigg County in a football game.

Nolan hit Reding for a 60-yard strike to close out the scoring.

Todd Central had 403 yards of offense but turned the football over three times. Trigg scored a touchdown after each of the three turnovers. The Wildcats also had four sacks in the contest – two by Tay’Shaun Linton.

Trigg County had 512 yards of offense despite running 16 fewer plays than the Rebels.

The game was also marred by 24 penalty flags – 12 by each team. Trigg totaled 113 yards in penalties while Todd had 85.

Trigg County moved to 21-15 all-time in the series that dates back to 1970.

Trigg County will host Warren Central Friday at 7:30. The Dragons snapped a 61-game losing streak with a 13-0 win over Bullitt Central.

Todd County Central will host Fort Campbell Friday. The Falcons beat Muhlenberg County 38-14.
