Momentum seemed to turn on a goal that Lyon County didn’t score.

Down 1-0 in the second half, the Lyons thought they had tied Monday’s 5th District tilt against Trigg County on a long free kick. A pair of headers in front of the net, the last by Timothy Stewart, resulted in the ball in the net and Lyon celebrating in the 50th minute of play.

However, officials ruled the play offsides.

But that didn’t seem to slow down Lyon. The Lyons got two goals from Stewart just a minute apart and went on to beat Trigg County 2-1 at Lee S. Jones Park in Eddyville.

Stewart scored on a penalty kick in the 54th minute to knot the game at 1-1.

He struck again in the 55th minute to put the Lyons in front.

Lyon is now 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the district.

Trigg (1-4, 0-1) had taken the lead in the 46th minute when Marlee Reeves ran onto a long ball and scored from in front.

The Wildcats had the better scoring opportunities in the first half, but the teams got to halftime still 0-0.

Lyon was outshot 7-3 in the first 40 minutes, but finished the game with a 14-11 advantage in shots.

Jackson Crawford had seven saves in the Lyon net.

Riley West made seven stops for Trigg.

The Lyons will next host Massac County (Ill.) on Thursday.

The Wildcats will play a pair of games in the Russellville Panther Classic on Saturday, taking on Bullitt East at 1 p.m. and facing Graves County at 5 p.m.

A scheduled date on Thursday for Trigg against Mayfield was canceled.
