Looking to move to 2-0 for the first time since an undefeated regular season in 2017, the Christian County Colonels instead received a heavy dose of Logan County’s Ryan Rayno on Friday in a 49-6 loss to the Cougars.

The final score matches last season’s meeting in Hopkinsville, also won by the Cougars. Logan County improves to 2-0 for the second year in a row after a state semifinal showing in 2021.

After Logan County’s Hunter Holloway picked off a Jordan Miles pass deep in Christian County territory, the Cougars got on the board on the first of a school-record six rushing touchdowns for Rayno.

However, the Colonels answered after Cyrus Greenwade returned the kick-off to the Logan 14-yard line, and Josiah Jenkins found the endzone from three yards out. The extra point was no good, and the Colonels trailed 7-6 midway through the first quarter.

A 21-yard pass from Miles to Elijah Underhill set up the Colonels at the Logan 27, but they turned the ball over on downs.

After Rayno’s second scoring run made it 14-6, it appeared that Miles had answered with a 40-yard touchdown run, but it came back for holding.

With just under six minutes to go in the half, JunVonte Dillard broke off a 67-yard run down the Colonels’ 2-yard line and finished the drive himself with a touchdown plunge.

It was Rayno again from seven yards out with seconds remaining in the half to give the Cougars a 26-6 halftime advantage.

After the break, it was all Logan County, with Rayno running wild for two more scores in the third quarter. A one-yard run and a 2-point conversion made it 34-6 before a seven-yard scamper and another 2-point try triggered the running clock with 4:24 to play in the frame.

Rayno broke the plane for the sixth time on a 25-yard run early in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring. He finished with 272 rushing yards, and Dillard added 100 and a score on seven carries.

Logan County outgained the Colonels 409 to 172, collecting twenty 1st-downs to Christian County’s ten. The Colonels managed only 87 yards on the ground, with Miles accounting for 70. He also had 85 yards through the air but was intercepted three times.

Christian County’s Prince Northington had three catches for 24 yards, and Jercolvin Holmes caught two balls for 28 yards.

The Colonels will be back home at the Stadium of Champions next Friday for a visit from Henderson County.
