Multitasking Wildcats Move to 2-0

Several Trigg County Wildcats were doing good things on both sides of the football which helped the team move to 2-0 with a 49-26 win over Warren Central Friday at Perdue Field.

Jerimyah Shearer had three interceptions on defense. He also threw for a score and caught a touchdown on offense.

TayShaun Linton had a pair of sacks on defense and was part of an offensive line that helped the offense eclipse 500 yards for the second straight game.

Dillion Skinner had a touchdown catch and an interception.

Kelsey Parham ran for a career-best 227 yards and was among the leading tacklers on defense.

There was plenty of kudos to go around as the Wildcats have won its first two games for the first time in three seasons.

Trigg County took the opening kickoff and marched 79 yards on five plays. Shearer took and handoff and lobbed a perfect pass to Skinner for a 24-yard touchdown. Olivia Noffsinger banged home the first of seven straight PATs for the early 7-0 lead.

Warren Central needed just two plays to answer. Dragon quarterback A.J. Jean Aime faked and handoff and went nearly untouched up the middle for a 74-yard scoring run. The senior accounted for 147 yards on 19 carries for Warren Central.

After a punt by both teams, Trigg went up 14-7 when Jacob Wease found Shearer for an 8-yard touchdown on 3rd-and-8.  The score was set up by a 50-yard catch across the middle by Skinner.

Parham would add his first scoring run of the night with a 3-yard punch with 6:04 left in the half that put Trigg ahead 21-7.

The Dragons, who snapped a 61-game losing streak last week showed a much-improved ability to run the football a year after the Wildcats held Warren Central to minus-31 yards on the ground. The Dragons used a 10-play, 71-yard scoring drive to pull to within 21-14 right before halftime. On 4th-and-6 at the Trigg 30, A.J. Jean Aime connected with his brother K.J. on a scoring pass.

Warren Central was on its way to tying the game when they opened the second half with a 13-play drive that took them to the Trigg 1-yard line. On 4th-and-goal, the snap was bobbled and Linton recovered the fumble. Trigg answered with a 9-play, 99-yard drive capped by a 7-yard scoring run by Parham.

Up 28-14, Trigg put the game out of reach with a pair of Wease touchdown passes to Jhaden Vaughn (12 yards) and Shearer (33 yards).

Parham’s 227 yards came on 29 carries and gives him 383 yards in two games on 43 carries for an average of 8.9 yards per carry.

Trigg County outgained Warren Central 513-315. Wease was 11-of-17 passing for 236 yards and three touchdowns. Shearer caught four passes for 70 yards, and Skinner had 119 yards with three catches.

Warren Central (1-1) plays at Greenwood in two weeks.

Trigg County (2-0) will host Murray Thursday night at Perdue Field. Murray beat Calloway County 49-7 Friday to move to 2-0.

EXTRA POINTS

— Jacob Wease’s 11 completions moved him past Donald Bush (255) for fourth place on Trigg’s career list with 262.  It was also his eighth career 200-yard game, breaking a tie with Cam Jordan for second on the career list. Dan Moser has the most with 12.

— Trigg County is now 3-0 all-time against Warren Central.

— Jaron Gilbert (2009) has the school record with four interceptions in one game. Shearer ties Mike P’Pool (1991), Riley Stallons (2017), and Caleb Reynolds (2006) for second-most.

— Linton has four sacks in two games. Kewanis Kennedy has the single-season school record with 11 sacks in 2004.

— Olivia Noffsinger is 13-for-13 on PATs this season.

— Trigg County’s season-opening win over Todd County Central came in the program’s 850th career game.
