Since an opening-night loss to Caldwell County, the Trigg County girls’ soccer team has been on a tear with five straight wins while outscoring opposing teams 39-8.
The Lady Wildcats picked up their second victory of the season over Paducah Tilghman on Monday, drilling the Blue Tornado 8-1 in the Kentucky 2A Section 1 opening round.
Trigg prevailed 4-2 over Tilghman in the first meeting, but after Lania Hite banged in the first of her three goals with just a minute played, it was clear the rematch wouldn’t be as close.
Addison Humphries tapped in from close range to double the advantage, and the Lady Wildcats led 3-0 after Leiah Hite curled in a left-footed effort from the edge of the 18-yard box.
Not to be outdone by her younger sister, Lania Hite used her right foot to find the far corner of the goal from just outside the box and give Trigg a 4-0 halftime edge.
Just as they did in the match’s opening minute, the Lady Wildcats began the second half with a goal from Leiah off an assist from Maggie Wolfe.
Humphries added her second goal on a breakaway before Lania finished off her hat trick on a pass from her sister with just under five minutes to play. Olivia Noffsinger scored the final goal in style, catching the Tilghman goalkeeper straying too far from her net and dropping in a shot from forty yards for an 8-0 score.
Only minutes from their first shutout of the season, the Lady Wildcats were denied when the Blue Tornado tapped in a goal on a loose ball after a corner kick.
Goalkeeper Sarah Sink made seven saves to earn the victory. Leiah scored two and assisted another, and Wolfe recorded two assists.
After a visit from Crittenden County on Tuesday, the Lady Wildcats will travel to Webster County on Thursday to meet the Lady Trojans in a 2A region semifinal.
