For the first time in five seasons and only the fourth time in over two decades, the Fort Campbell girls’ soccer team knocked off 8th-District foe Hopkinsville 2-1 on Tuesday.

The Lady Falcons last topped the Lady Tigers in 2017, sixteen seasons after two wins in 2001, including a 3-1 result in that year’s district-title match.

Neither team could get on the scoreboard in the first forty minutes, leaving the match to be decided in the second half.  Fort Campbell struck first when Charlize Cruz found the back of the net off a long pass from Savannah Ziegler.

Anna Allen leads the Lady Falcons in goals so far with nine, but she turned provider with an assist to Keelin Gray to double the advantage.

The Lady Tigers have struggled for consistency in attack, but they were back within a goal after Rebecca Wood scored for the first time this season.

Fort Campbell goalkeeper Emma Gray shut out Hoptown the rest of the way to help the Lady Falcons win for the third time in four matches.  They travel to UHA on Tuesday, looking to improve to 2-0 in district play.

Hopkinsville slips to 1-5-1 with a visit from defending 2nd-Region champions Henderson County scheduled for Thursday.
