If Kentucky football fans are as excited about this season as I think, then there should be a rowdy, large crowd at Kroger Field Saturday night when UK hosts Miami of Ohio.
“That would be very good for our team. I think our team greatly appreciates that. They feel that energy,” Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said.
“It’s nice that we’re kicking off in the evening, could be a little cooler. Hopefully we get a great night. I really appreciate the fan base, and the season tickets are up, and the student tickets are sold out. We’re expecting big crowds and we greatly appreciate that.”
“You always hear me talk about that. I always appreciate it. I know the sacrifice they make. I can promise you that our team has worked exceptionally hard to go play well.”
I think fans appreciate that candor and love from Stoops and his players never miss an opportunity to praise BBN. I am guessing tailgate lots will be busy early and the CatWalk could have a huge crowd to set the stage for what everyone connected with UK football hopes is a special season.
Stoops joked he doesn’t feel any differently about this year except “I’m getting old” — and that doesn’t get better Coach.
Ironically, Stoops’ first win in 2013 — one of only two wins UK had in his first year — came against Miami. The coach didn’t even realize that until he was told at his press conference Monday.
“Year 10, that was a long time ago. A much different team. Just try to stay in the moment, stay in our normal routine, and getting the team ready to play,” Stoops said. “Getting a team prepped for the next opponent, getting into game week routine is something that is exciting.”
