For a few moments early in the match Thursday evening, it looked as if the Russellville Panthers might be ready to push the Todd County Central Rebels. For a few moments.
After seeing the Panthers control the first few minutes of the match and put pressure on their defense, the Todd County Central Rebels got down to business and dispatched Russellville 9-1 in a 13th District contest.
Ivan Lopez opened the scoring for Todd Central at the 12-minute mark on an assist from Cam Wheelock. At the 28:00, Wheelock went unassisted for the second goal of the night. That seemed to really pour the fuel on the fire for the Rebels.
At the 31:00 mark, Chris Salazar bent in a corner kick for goal number three and 2 minutes later Tanner Henderson dropped a ball to Zack Robinson for a rocket from deep to make it 4-0, which would be the halftime score.
The momentum continued as the second half got underway. Just 50 seconds into the second half, Cam Wheelock headed in a pass from Trey Osborne to make it 5-0.
Cam Wheelock headed in his 3rd goal of the night off a free kick from Chris Salazar at the 17 minute mark of the second half. Salazar then scored on a drop from Ivan Lopez 19 minutes in and again on a drop from Tanner Henderson 5 minutes after that.
Russellville managed to get on the board to make it 8-1 with under 10 minutes to play. The Rebels added a late goal when Jonah Rager got a deep ball over the Russellville back line – and Tanner Henderson finished it off for the final 9-1 score.
With the win, which was the Rebels’ 7th straight, Todd Central now improves to 9-0-1. They are back in action next Thursday when they host Logan County in another 13th District battle.
