The high-scoring Trigg County girls’ soccer team earned its first shutout victory of the season on Thursday, drilling Webster County 9-0 in the Kentucky 2A Section 1 semifinals at Hopkins County Central.
The Lady Wildcats move to 7-1 with their seventh straight win and earn a spot in Saturday’s final at Calloway County. The Lady Lakers knocked off Hopkins County Central in Thursday’s other semifinal.
Trigg freshman Addison Humphries opened the scoring and added three goals in sixteen minutes to highlight the Lady Wildcats’ first-half onslaught.
Lania and Leiah Hite both got on the scoresheet in the first forty minutes, and Olivia Noffsinger’s shot from distance found its way through a tangle of legs for a 7-0 lead at the half.
With the game in hand, Noffsinger headed back to Cadiz to kick in the Wildcats’ football game with Murray, and Humphries took over for Sarah Sink in the Trigg goal after the break.
Despite having the ball for most of the second half, goals were harder to come by for the Lady Wildcats. Lania Hite scored her second in the 46th minute, and completed her hat trick off an assist from Isabella Detweiler with just over sixteen minutes left.
Lania Hite’s three goals gives her 25 in just eight games this season. Humphries big night took her scoring total to seven, and Maggie Wolfe provided a pair of assists.
The Lady Wildcats outshot the Lady Trojans 22-3. They have outscored their opposition 53-13 so far this year.
