Two teams preparing to head to Richmond next week got together on the volleyball court Thursday night. 4th Region All A champion Todd County Central hosted 2nd Region All A champion University Heights in a battle of teams looking to make some noise at the All A Classic state tournament, and for this one night, it was the 4th Region champion that had the upper hand.
The Lady Rebels rebounded from a tough loss to Logan County on Tuesday night by getting past the Lady Blazers in four sets.
UHA opened strong taking the early lead in the first set. Todd Central battled back and would end up winning the opening set 25-19.
The Lady Rebels carried that momentum over into the second set, as they would take a 25-17 win to go up 2-0 in the match.
However, the Lady Blazers would not go quite that easy. UHA, with their backs against the wall, responded by taking the third set 25-17 to close the match lead to two sets to one. With the set win, the Lady Blazers became the only team other than Logan County to hand the Lady Rebels a set loss so far this season.
The final set would belong to the Lady Rebels. Todd Central closed out the match by winning the fourth set 25-15 and taking the match three sets to one.
The trio of Lucy Chester, Lanie Bivins, and Lynnlee Jones came up big at the net for Todd Central. The trio combined for 44 kills with Chester having 22, Bivins 14, and Jones 8. Addileigh Wofford finished the match with 39 assists. Chloe Wills was strong at the serve, including finishing with four service aces.
UHA ended the night with 16 kills and 7 service aces.
Todd County Central improves to 9-2 on the season. The Lady Rebels are back in action Monday night when they go on the road to Muhlenberg County.
The loss ended a ten-match winning streak for UHA and drops the Lady Blazers to 12-3. UHA is back in action next Thursday against Christian County.
