Trigg County’s defense picked up its second clean sheet in three matches Thursday as they handed Hopkins County Central a 5-0 loss at Josh Nichols Field.

It was the third time the Lady Storm have been shut out this year — the other two coming against Henderson County and Madisonville.

Both squads were coming off losses to Calloway County in the Class 2A Sectional — Hopkins Central losing in the semifinals and Trigg in the championship Saturday.

But Trigg was able to bounce back as Lania Hite found the goal in the 17th minute. It would be the only goal of the half as both teams were strong on defense in the first 40 minutes.

Addison Humphries scored the first of her two goals eight minutes into the second half as she took a pass from Leiah Hite and found the upper left corner for a 2-0 lead.

Six minutes later, Hite found older sister Lania out front with a cross. Older sis buried the shot for a 3-0 lead.

Leiah Hite would find Humphries again in the 62nd minute. For Humphries, it was her ninth goal of the campaign.

Trigg County closed out the scoring with eight minutes left when the Hite sisters again connected on a cross. Lania completed the hat trick for her 29th goal of the season. For Leiah, her four assists give her 10 this season.

Sarah Sink made 10 saves in goal for the Lady Wildcats, who were outshot 12-10.  Brooklyn Clark had 12 saves for Hopkins County Central, who dropped to 5-4-1.

Now 8-2, Trigg County is off to its best start in program history. The Lady Wildcats will play at Crittenden County Tuesday.
