It is what you expect of your leading scorer when the match comes down to crunch time. Todd County Central senior Madison Henderson found the net on an incredible shot along the goal line at the 56:30 mark to give the Lady Rebels the lead for good on the way to a 3-1 win over the Russellville Lady Panthers in the 4th Region All A championship match Saturday night in Russellville.
The win advances the Lady Rebels on to the sectional round of the All A Classic. The win also gives the Lady Rebels their second All A regional championship in the last three years.
However, it was the Lady Panthers who got things started in the title game Saturday night. Sayne Olivia was in the right place at the right time as she took a deflected shot and put it behind Todd Central goalie Darby Delph to give the Lady Panthers a 1-0 lead at the 15:00 mark. But that would be the last time they would get the ball past Delph for the rest of the match.
The Lady Rebels quickly evened things up when Ciara Collins came flying down the left side of the field and scored at the 19:15 to make it 1-1. Even though both teams had great chances over the rest of the half, the score would still be 1-1 at the break.
That pattern continued in the second half until Henderson’s go-ahead goal. Collins would seal the championship with an insurance goal inside the final two minutes of the match that made it 3-1.
Todd County Central had reached the title match by cruising past Clinton County 10-0 earlier in the day Saturday. Madison Henderson scored five times to lead the Lady Rebels. Melanie Chamberlaine found the net twice. In addition to her duties in goal, Darby Delph also got into the scoring column in the match.
The Lady Rebels ended the match when they scored their 10th goal with just over 11 minutes left in the second half.
