Hot Brown Cooks Up Bowling Green Win

Not playing the way she wanted through 12 holes at Saturday’s Bowling Green Invitational, Cathryn Brown flipped on the switch and finished 2-under par over her final six holes to win by two shots.

The Lyon County senior finished with a 1-under par 71. It wasn’t as if Brown was playing badly through her first 12 holes. But she wasn’t getting the separation she wanted.

Until the 14th hole.

Brown chipped in for eagle on the par-5 hole, followed with a birdie on 15, and added pars on 16 and 17. Despite a fishing bogey, Brown claimed the two-shot win over Shelby County’s Isabella Wiley.

North Hardin’s Ella Scherer and Madison Central’s Elizabeth Eberle tied for third at 2-over, and Marshall County’s Trinity Beth was fifth with a 75.

The invitational, held at the Bowling Green Country Club, is the site of the KHSAA State Tournament next month and is a popular stop for golfers wanting to play a competitive round ahead of the postseason.

Brown, Beth, and the rest of the state’s top golfers will play in the Kentucky Golf Coaches Association All-State Tournament next weekend at the UK Club in Lexington.
