Kentucky has a win over Florida and a No. 9 national ranking but the Wildcats still want to do a lot more.
“I still think we have a lot more people to prove wrong,” quarterback Will Levis said on CBS Sports Radio this week. “I think at least offensively, we’d like to think of ourselves as a balanced offense with a lot of different ways to beat you.”
“One week it may be a different way than the next, but we just want to get the job done, and at the end of the day, the only real stat that matters is that “W” in the win column. We know that when we’re on the top of our game, we can beat anybody.”
Levis appreciated all the national media analysts and poll voters who doubted the Wildcats going into Florida before the Cats won 26-16 — their second win in five years at Florida.
“People can say whatever they want to say, but the only people’s opinions that really matter are the people in this (football) building,” Levis said on CBS.
Kentucky got a big-time scare in its third game last year when it was coming off a 35-28 win over Missouri but just beat Chattanooga 28-23 on its way to a 6-0 start 10-3 finish.
Levis said UK can’t have that “hangover after a big win” this season and take any win for granted like it might have done last year against Chattanooga.
“We don’t want to leave any doubts about our preparation,” Levis said.
The quarterback said UK has to bring the energy even with a noon kickoff.
“That can kind of get in the way of guys’ ‘juice’ and we’re getting up early and getting over there. Expecting another great crowd from the fans but sometimes, in a situation like that, you’ve got to rely on your own energy. The second you’re behind, it might be too late,” Levis said.
Levis said he was impressed with UK’s practice energy Tuesday and felt the Cats took a step forward in that area last week before beating Florida.
“We can’t just expect to flip that switch. We had that point of emphasis today in practice,” Levis said.
