Don’t overlook the fact No. 9 Kentucky shutout Youngstown State in a 31-point victory on Saturday. No, Youngstown State doesn’t have near the same level of talent as Kentucky. However, Penguins came to Lexington ready to punch the Wildcats in the mouth and succeeded for the first quarter of the game.
Kentucky and Youngstown State were tied after 15 minutes, which probably came as a surprise to some of the fanbase. The veteran Wildcat defense held strong early on, allowing quarterback Will Levis enough time to really get going for a 21-point first quarter.
The Wildcats defense was a force all game, recording their first shutout of the season against a team that had averaged 40 points per game over their first two weeks of the season. While Kentucky’s offensive line and overall chemistry can certainly improve, it’s better to work out the kinks now rather than later in the heart of SEC play that will be here in less than two weeks.
Kentucky will host Northern Illinois on Saturday before heading to Ole Miss the following week.
