The University Heights Academy Blazers will be the top seed as the 8th District boys’ soccer tournament gets underway next week at Fort Campbell. The Blazers clinched the top seed with a 4-0 win over the Christian County Colonels Tuesday night at Givens Field.

Both teams had entered the match at 2-0 in 8th District play. The Colonels will be the number two seed in the district tournament.

The Blazers would score the only goal they would need at the 22:50 mark of the match. After the Colonels where whistled for a hand ball in the box, Ethan Hale drilled the penalty kick to put UHA up 1-0.

UHA added a goal in the final minute of the half as Lincoln Hauret found Preston Thomas with a pass across the middle, with Thomas then finding the net to send it to the half at 2-0.

The first half was an intense, high-energy battle, as evidenced by double yellows being handed out at the 27:30 mark of the opening half.

The Blazers then essentially put the match away in a 90-second span of the second half. Preston Thomas took a pass from Ethan Hale on a run at 61:00 and found the net for his second goal of the night to make it 3-0. Thomas would complete the hat trick at 62:30 scoring from the left side to extend the margin to 4-0.

The UHA backline defense was impressive Tuesday night, allowing the Colonels very few good looks at the net.

The win, which was the 10th in a row for UHA over Christian County, improves the Blazers to 10-6 on the season. Christian County falls to 7-9-2.

With UHA claiming the #1 seed, the pairings are now set for the 8th District tournament. The Blazers will take on Fort Campbell in one semifinal, while Christian County will take on Hoptown in the other.

The Blazers will wrap up the regular season Thursday on the road at Mayfield.

Christian County finishes with a road match at Todd County Central.
