Last year left a sour taste in the mouth of Trigg County golfer Hunter Reynolds. After a strong start to the 2021 season, Reynolds missed out on a return trip to the state tournament following an off day at the region tournament.
Reynolds again got off to a hot start in 2022 and has sustained his stellar play with the return trip to the state tournament. Reynolds, who finished in second place at the regional tournament, finished in fourth place at Monday’s KHSAA first round in Owensboro. He survived a breezy day on the golf course to shoot a two over par 74.
Reynolds punctuated his round with a 42-foot birdie putt on his final hole. He began his day on the back nine where he was even par after seven holes. He finished with two straight bogeys to card a 38 on his first nine.
He began his second nine holes with three birdies over his first six holes to get as low as one under par. He wobbled a bit on the seventh hole when his second shot went out of bounds. He finished with a double bogey and followed that with a bogey on the par 3 8th hole. However, he finished strong with a birdie on his final hole to come in with an even-par 36.
Reynolds finished five shots behind Taylor County‘s Luke Coyle, who shot the day’s low round at 3-under par. For Reynolds, he makes a return to the Bowling Green Country Club next Tuesday for his second and final state tournament appearance. As a sophomore, Reynolds finished tied for 40th place.
