Playing the last round of her high school career on Saturday at the KHSAA State Golf Championships, Lyon County’s Cathryn Brown fired at 1-over 73 at Bowling Green County Club to finish runner-up to Marshall County’s Trinity Beth.
Brown entered the day one shot back of Beth after a 73 on Friday, but she struggled early on Saturday with three bogeys on the first four holes. However, she settled down with birdies on holes seven and nine to make the turn at 2-over on the day.
Brown made a charge on the back nine, with a single bogey on the 11th hole the only blemish. She birdied the par-4 12th, and five straight pars followed before a birdie on 18 to close the round with a 1-under 35 over the final nine holes.
She finished the weekend with a total of 146, three shots back of Beth’s 143 and two strokes ahead of defending champion Macie Brown of Bullitt East.
