Top-Rated Maroons Blank Hoptown 6-0 in Region Semis

The Hopkinsville High School soccer team saw its season come to an end against the top-rated team in the 2nd Region.

Madisonville-North Hopkins blanked the Tigers 6-0 Wednesday night in the semifinals of the regional tourney in Henderson.

Hoptown (12-10-1) trailed 3-0 at halftime and could never mount much of an offensive attack against the Maroons (19-5).

Madisonville, rated No. 1 in the 2nd Region by the KHSAA RPI, outshot Hopkinsville 25-3 while advancing to Thursday’s 6 p.m. championship match against host Henderson County (13-6-1). The Colonels beat University Heights Academy 3-1 in Wednesday’s first semifinal contest.

Eli Redpath and Maverick Peyton each had two goals in Madisonville’s win over Hopkinsville.

Redpath got the Maroons’ on the scoreboard just 2 minutes into the semifinal match, heading home a corner kick from Sam Dodds.

Another corner kick led to Madisonville’s second goal in the 13th minute. J.J. Brown took a short pass off the corner and sent the ball in front, where Jackson Elkins finished it off for the goal.

Peyton’s first goal came in the 22nd minute off a pass from Brown in the box. Peyton punched home the shot from in close to make it a 3-0 game at halftime.

Ryerson Brower made it 4-0 in the 48th minute. Redpath picked up an assist when his shot hit the far post and Brower was there to score on the rebound.

Redpath’s second goal came in the 62nd minute off an assist from Brown.

Less than a minute later, Redpath assisted on Peyton’s second tally of the night to finish off the scoring at 6-0.

Madisonville played three goalkeepers but Ethan Peyton was the only one to record a save, finishing with two stops.

Hopkinsville’s Kenneth McMickens made 10 saves in the Tiger net.
