Heritage Christian Academy opens defense of its KCAA state soccer championship Thursday night with a semifinal showdown with the Academy for Individual Excellence.

Heritage is the No. 3 seed in the tournament while AIE is the No. 2 seed. The semifinal will be played at 8:00 (eastern time) in Elizabethtown.

Heritage is 16-5-1 after its first round opponent, Lakeside Christian Academy, opted to take a forfeit rather than drive from Morehead to Hopkinsville for the contest. While it’s the first time it has happened to HCA in soccer in recent years, it has happened in other sports.

While the other five KCAA soccer schools played an average of eight league games in 2022, HCA played just four and only one of them was at home.

Heritage tied AIE 2-2 last Thursday. Their only KCAA loss was a 4-2 setback to No. 1 seed Assumption.

A win in Thursday’s semifinal would send the Warriors to the championship match Saturday night, also in Elizabethtown.
