
Darin Frederick’s 10-yard touchdown pass to Jontae Al-Muid early in the 4th quarter turned out to be the difference as the Fort Campbell Falcons won a back-and-forth battle, coming from behind, at Caverna 36-34 Friday night. The win was the third for the Falcons this season, tripling their win total from 2021.
The game-winning score was the third receiving touchdown of the night for A;-Muid.
Al-Muid scored early in the night as he caught a 65-yard pass from Frederick with 11:49 to go in the first quarter to give Fort Campbell an 8-0 lead.
Caverna scored back-to-back touchdowns in the first half of the second quarter to go up 14-8.
Al-Muid brought the Falcons back as he caught a 44-yard touchdown pass with 5:31 to go in the half, evening the game up at 14-14.
Frederick threw another touchdown pass, this one a 13-yarder to Dakevius Lewis, with 3:31 to go in the half, putting the Falcons up 20-14 at the break.
Caverna returned the second half kickoff for a score to even things up at 20-20. Less than a minute and a half later, Darin Frederick tossed his fourth touchdown pass of the night, this one 19-yards to Maurice Moore, putting the Falcons back ahead 28-20, after the two-point conversion.
The Colonels stormed right back, scoring two touchdown passes before the end of the third quarter, going back in front 34-28 heading into the final quarter.
Both teams finished the night with more than 300 yards in total offense. Fort Campbell had 363, while Caverna had 384.
Both teams also had troubles with the penalty bug. The Falcons were penalized 10 times for 104 yards, while Caverna was hit 14 times for 135 yards.
Fort Campbell improves to 3-5 with the win. The Falcons host Ballard Memorial in the final district game of the regular season next Friday. The winner will make the playoffs, while the loser will see their season come to an end the last Friday night in October.
