Kyra Elzy came to Rupp Arena riding on the back of a motorcycle. However, the Kentucky women’s coach wished the entrance could have been even more dramatic.
“If they would have let me drive the motorcycle on the court, of course, we would have done that,” Elzy said Tuesday at SEC Media Days in Birmingham.
She wore a white jacket along with knee-high blue boots.
“Big Blue Madness is unbelievable. It’s an experience for our players and our staff and just the excitement around it that basketball season is around the corner,” Elzy said.
“I wanted to do something fun for the entrance. Unlike Coach Cal, who has the swag and he can come in and do his presidential speech and everyone loves it, I have to think of something a little more exciting. He has the ‘it’ already. That’s where the motorcycle came in.”
In 2021 she repelled from the ceiling of the arena for her entrance.
Sophomore guard Jada Walker thought Elzy stole the show with her entrance.
“Everything was just perfect,” Walker said at SEC Media Days. “She took off her blazer on stage and there was a group singing behind her and that was so cool. That was the best entrance (at Madness) hands down.”
Elzy said as much fun as she had, it’s more important for the players to enjoy Madness.
“I love that they were able to show their personalities,” the UK coach said.

Sorry, I went to BBM and it will probably be my last. Nothing new or exciting. It has run it’s course and they need something special. Mathew Mitchell made it impossible for anyone to top his performances. Nothing against Elsy, but the whole show was boring. Cal build it up as the gold standard, but we all ended up with a lump of coal. Maybe with a little pressure they can turn it into a diamond. Change is needed before it becomes a flop.
