
Madisonville-North Hopkins scored the first eight points of the night and went on to capture its second-straight 7th District volleyball championship on Tuesday.
The Lady Maroons turned back Caldwell County in straight sets, 25-12, 25-15, 25-10 at the CAB gym in Princeton.
Kendrea White had 19 kills, a block and nine digs for Madisonville (26-10) while Kaitlyn Orange finished with 11 kills, 20 digs and two service aces as Madisonville defeated Caldwell for the third time this season.
Amya King had three kills to go with 30 assists, a block, seven digs and two aces. Arian Gregory tallied a team-high 25 digs.
McKenzie Stoltz recorded 12 digs and two aces while Ellie Hughes had a kill and a block, and Abbey Harberson had a kill and two digs.
For Caldwell (13-18), Kyndra Winters had four kills, 10 assists and six digs while Brylee Butts recorded four kills, two blocks and two digs.
Ellie Ramey finished with three kills, a block and three digs while Benashka Thomas had two kills and five digs.
Lily Hoard had one kill and 10 digs. Claire Knoth had a team-high 16 digs.
Rylee Thomas added five digs, T.J. Goodwin had four digs and Katie Menser recorded two digs.
The second set was the most competitive of the night. After falling behind, Caldwell battled back as close as 20-14, prompting a Madisonville timeout. But the Lady Maroons won five of the next six points to finish off the set.
Madisonville has now taken five straight matches from Caldwell.
The Lady Tigers had won 14 straight district titles before Madisonville ended that streak last season.
Caldwell had won 35 in a row against the Lady Maroons before that string came to an end last season as well.
Caldwell still leads Madisonville all-time 37-10.
Both Madisonville and Caldwell advance to the 2nd Region tournament next week at Henderson County.
