Franklin County star running back Kaden Moorman, an early verbal commit in Kentucky’s 2023 recruiting class, has changed his mind — at least for now.

He announced on social media Friday that he was no longer committed to the Cats.

“I’d like to thank the University of Kentucky for everything, and the fans as well,” Moorman posted on Twitter. “Just want to explore my options and be useful of my five official visits wisely and make the best decision for me and my family.”

“Kentucky could still be a landing spot. As that being said I would like to publicly recommit and publicly open my recruitment 100% back up to all schools. Thank you. Please respect my decision.”

The 5-11, 205-pound Moorman is a three-star prospect and a bruising runner similar to current UK star Chris Rodriguez. He ran for 1,447 yards and 27 touchdowns on 177 carries in 2021 and also caught 18 passes for 211 yards and two scores. He was also dangerous on kickoff returns.

Kentucky did not sign a running back in the 2022 recruiting class — it did add one running back via transfer — but got early commitments from Moorman and Alabama running back Khalifa Keith, a three-star prospect who recently visited Tennessee and also has a SEC offer from South Carolina.

Georgia tailback Jamarion Wilcox, a 195-pound three-star prospect, visited UK last weekend. He also has offers from Clemson, Mississippi State, Louisville, Wake Forest and North Carolina State.

Due to an ankle injury, Moorman has played in just five games this season and has 244 yards and five scores on only 38 attempts.

Moorman did not indicate which schools he might visit or has the most interest in on his social media post announcing his recommitment.

Maybe he could still end up at UK, but don’t count on it. My feeling is if he decommitted now, it likely was a mutual decision between him and UK for both to look in different directions.
