Fort Campbell High School has turned to an assistant coach from last year’s Falcon basketball team to lead the program for the 2022-2023 season. Athletic Department officials tell YourSportsEdge.Com that retired Major Jeff Cherry, who was on Robbie Townsend’s staff last season, will serve as the next head coach for the program.
Townsend stepped down after four years on the job. He only coached on the sideline for three of those four years as the Falcons were not allowed to play the 2020-2021 season by the DoDEA due to COVID-19 protocols. Townsend’s teams had a 16-64 record during his three years.
According a post on the DoDEA Fort Campbell High School Facebook page in February 2021, Cherry arrived at Fort Campbell when he was hired as the JROTC instructor.
He graduated from Ralph R. McKee Vocational High School in 1988. Cherry then attended John Jay College of Criminal Justice for 2 years before deciding to join the United States Army.
Retired Major Cherry served in the active duty Army for 29+ years as a Logistician and Research Analyst.
The Falcons are set to open the season November 28 on the road at Livingston Central.
