Trigg County senior Austin Cavanaugh narrowly missed his fourth straight top-10 finish at the KHSAA 2A State Cross Country Championship on Friday, crossing the line in 11th at the Bourbon County Cross Country Park.
Austin ran a 16:48, 25 seconds slower than his time to win his third straight Region 1 title last week and five seconds back of North Oldham’s Jasper Smith in 10th place. Thomas Nelson sophomore Riku Sugie finished 1st with a time of 15:38.
Sophomore David Cavanaugh was next for the Wildcats with an 18:05 to finish 49th. Riley Thompson crossed the line in 87th place with an 18:48, followed by fellow junior Levi Watts in 160th with a 20:03.
Sophomore Matthew Reeves ran a 20:27, and 8th-grader Travis Cavanaugh finished with a 20:46.
Austin Cavanaugh was hoping to become the first Trigg runner to boast four top-10 finishes at state. He went in the record book as the first Wildcat to capture three region titles last week at Marshall County.
