Hopkinsville High School freshman Lauren Mayes was able to take nearly a minute off her time at the Class 3A State Meet Saturday near Paris.
Mayes finished in 162nd place with a time of 22:27 over the 3.1-mile course, bettering her 2021 time by 42 seconds.
She said increased hill work during the season helped her improve nearly six minutes throughout the cross country season.
