Heritage Christian Academy senior Carlos Robles outscored visiting Clarksville Christian by himself in the first half on Monday to lead the Warriors to a 64-47 victory over the Crusaders.
Clarksville Christian led early on after a pair of three-pointers by Seth Koenes, but Robles answered with nine straight points to put the Warriors in front 14-8.
The Crusaders responded with a seven-point spurt, capped by Koenes’ third three-pointer, and led by a point before Robles knocked down a pair of free throws with two seconds left in the quarter for a 16-15 Warrior edge.
HCA opened the second quarter on a 12-0 run, fueled by ten points from Robles, to lead 28-15 with 4:52 left in the half. Trevor Gibson rebounded his own miss and converted a three-point play to send the Warriors to the halftime break with a 34-18 advantage.
HCA’s Trentin Fowler drilled a three-pointer to start the second half, but Clarksville Christian held the Warriors to six points the rest of the quarter to climb back into the game. The Crusaders rallied to get within 13 points at 43-40 with a quarter to play.
A Robles’ steal and layup restored the 16-point cushion with seven minutes left, but Koenes got going again with two and-1s in 30 seconds, and Clarksville only trailed by ten at 50-40.
However, the Warriors doubled up the Centurions from there and took their largest lead of the night at 59-42 on a bucket down low from Landen Wells with just over two minutes left.
HCA improved to 4-2 overall with a scrimmage against Fort Campbell coming up on Friday. The Warriors open KHSAA play on November 29 when they host Madisonville-North Hopkins.
